Why Does Meeting Milo Work?
Ask a class of first grade children how many have
been bit by a dog. Chances are over 80% of children will raise their
hands. Ask those same children how many like dogs, and nearly 100%
will raise their hands. Children have an amazing ability to forgive.
But they shouldn't have to.
Most dog bites happen in the home, or at the home
of someone the child knows. If you have a child, chances are you
know the dog that will bite them. Children need to be educated at
a young age, ideally age 3 to 6, on how to interact with a dog.
Meeting Milo has three core principles that make it effective.
1 - Accurate.
As parents, the founders of Meeting Milo know that accuracy of information
is critical. We would not recommend anything we would not do with
our own children. Meeting Milo has been reviewed by industry experts,
rescue groups, parents and educators. Their testimonials and endorsements
are your guarantee that Meeting Milo teaches skills they are able
to master, and skills that can keep them safer.
2 - Age appropriate.
Meeting Milo is one of the best programs available, and one
of the few effective programs for children age 3 to 6. We teach
skills that can last a lifetime in a way that children relate to.
For more information on age appropriate child tasks, see our resource
pages.
3 - Fun. Young
children love and thrive on fun, interactive programs. Ask any parent,
and you will no doubt hear how the same book can be read daily for
weeks. Meeting Milo is that type of book. We modeled our lessons
on effective educational programming for maximum impact.
Studies now show that
dog bite prevention programs are an effective tool.
